The Whole Story - Dick Turpin Part 1...

Mid month time...here is the next of our 'Whole Stories', this time it's Dick Turpin, a brilliant strip based on another of Richard Carpenter's series, of which 4 appeared in Look-in, Catweazle and later on Smuggler and Robin of Sherwood.  This take on the Turpin tale had the highwayman (played by Richard O'Sullivan) as a 'loveable rogue' type character, who uses his ingenuity and guile to outfox his enemies, particularly Sir John Glutton (Christopher Benjamin) and his charge Captain Nathan Spiker (David Daker), nothing gives Dick greater pleasure than making them look like idiots at the end of an episode.  At Dick's side is his good friend Nick 'Swiftnick' Smith (Michael Deeks), who as well as being a useful ally, also causes Dick no shortage of headaches.  The strip was drawn by Martin Asbury and lasted for 4 stories during 1979.  Replacing The Six Million Dollar Man, the strip ran for only four stories, before being replaced by Sapphire and Steel.
